I curated a selection of works by five artists for the radioCona 0.2425 FM soundart exhibition broadcast and streaming February 28 – March 3, 2016 after nautical twilight 6:16 PM on 88.8MHz FM and live streaming on www.radiocona.si Ljubljana.

This edition of the annual exhibition is dedicated to the Earth’s orbit around the Sun, focusing on the dimension of nighttime radio transmission and the idea of heightened perception that can happen only by withdrawing from daytime rhythms.

In addition, my own “SoundTent At Camp Sherwin” was selected by one of the other curators.

May 15: HOME RADIATION at Defibrillator

HOME RADIATION

Defibrillator is proud to present

ANNA FRIZ, JEFF KOLAR, ERIC LEONARDSON

in

HOME RADIATION

Performing with radiophonic instruments, unique homemade electronics, micro-watt transmitters, and re-purposed objects, ANNA FRIZ, JEFF KOLAR and ERIC LEONARDSON create intimate atmospheres traversing acoustic and electro-magnetic space. Together their work can be characterized as a mindful collaboration with vibrational surfaces and unstable circuits; and with subtle treatments of potentially noisy, often lo-fi materials from which highly detailed landscapes emerge. Though all three artists have worked with one another in various constellations in Chicago and internationally, this concert is their premiere outing as a trio.

I’m excited to be performing with Anna Friz again, and we’re honored to be the “pre-festival teaser” for the 2013 Megapolis Audio Festival.

Our previous performance with Anna’s radio installation was in Respire (2011) at ESS. Before that, we performed on tour in the Eastern US, while creating Dancing Walls Stir the Prairie (2007) at the free103point9.org Wave Farm, for broadcast on Kunstradio-Radiokunst in Vienna. Our very first collaboration took place in the 2005 Deep Wireless Festival, with a different instrumentarium. Our radio theater work, entitled Other Music was created and performed with Evalyn Parry (text, voice, cassette player), Chris Brookes (voice, cassette player), Anna Friz (voice, cassette player), and myself (springboard). You can listen to the recording here. (Recorded live at The Drake Hotel on May 27, 2005; duration 9:01.)

Respire: Performance with Anna Friz at ESS on SoundCloud

ESS posted my performance with Anna Friz for the opening of Respire at Audible on its SoundCloud profile. What you hear, amongst a roomful of radios receiving the sounds of breathing and other bodily exclamations typically absent from regular radio programming, is Anna playing amplified sruti, mbira, and electronics. I performed on the Springboard and Korg MS-20. We performed on Friday July 16, 2011. Listen here: Anna Friz and Eric Leonardson Live in Studio A by Experimental Sound Studio
