Sound Collaborations: Inferno Mobile Recording Studio Manifesto & Cookbook

cover of the cookbook

I am honored to be among the teaching artists invited to contribute a “recipe” for the new Inferno Mobile Recording Studio (IMRS) Sound Collaborations Manifesto & Cookbook, a free open source educational tool on sonic arts making for youth.

My recipe is on soundwalking, which I thank IMRS for supporting as a partner with the Midwest Society for Acoustic Ecology through the Chicago Park District’s Night Out In the Parks program.

What is IMRS?

Myth has it that Inferno is a mobile studio is a van equipped with audio gear visiting Chicago Park District facilities. Truth is, they travel around without a van, engaging youth in electronic sound making and recording. It was started 2010 by musician, School of the Art Institute of Chicago alum, and World Listening Project co-founder, JayVe Montgomery. IMRS hosts local artists to lead sonic arts and creative media events for the public in Chicago parks. Now, Sean Heaney directs IMRS. He worked with JayVe on the production of the cookbook, along with its many contributing artists.
