Birgit Ulher returns from Hamburg to join Carol Genetti and me to perform at Constellation, and celebrate the release of our new CD, “horizontal shift” (Amalgam Music); wonderfully recorded and mixed by Bill Harris, and exquisitely mastered by Todd Carter at Belair Studio. Sharing the bill with us are the trio of Allen Moore, Nick Meryhew, and Rebecca Himelstein.

Allen Moore is a Black American interdisciplinary painter, experimental sound artist, educator, youth mentor and curator born and raised in the Historic Village of Robbins, IL. Nick Meryhew is an experimental musician, arts educator, improviser, and armchair geologist. Their work explores ideas of assemblage, hybridity, and non-hierarchy through a sculptural approach to found sound. Rebecca Himelstein is an interdisciplinary artist and musician living and working in Chicago, IL.

Vocal and visual artist Carol Genetti and I have been performing together for over 25 years. In 1998, we met fellow trumpet player, improviser and visual artist Birgit Ulher in Hamburg. While Birgit and I have performed together many times in Chicago and Hamburg, it wasn’t until early 2018 that all three of us performed as a trio. Our distinct electroacoustic sounds and techniques combine in uncanny ways; granular and textured, at times atmospheric and resonant, not the normal or “open” sound one might expect from voice and trumpet. I will perform on my Springboard.
