Calling Frog Soundwalk

NOITP logo design by James LeonardsonFrogs and toads are considered bellwether species. Their emergence or disappearance indicate changes in the health of our environment. Our evening soundwalk with Eric Leonardson will provide an introduction to some of the sounds of the several species, as well as their presence within the overall West Ridge soundscape. Learn about the West Ridge frog monitoring and Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum’s Calling Frog Survey. Decode the signals and undertones of plants, animals, and urban life. Become a citizen scientist. (Rain date June 24.)

Luna-On-TreeGreetings, I hope you’re enjoy a great summer. I’m sharing info on tomorrow morning’s soundwalk at West Ridge Nature Preserve.

TIME: 10-11:00am
DATE: Saturday, August 27
LOCATION: 5801 N Western Ave, Chicago, IL 60659

This event is free and open to all ages.

Starting at the Western Avenue entrance, our soundwalk explores the ecological restoration project that started at West Ridge in 2011, still underway. Many native species of plants and animals have returned, visibly and audibly. Meet scientists who monitor its frog population. This event is part of the Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks events. Soundwalking explores our relationship to sounds around us as listeners and creators of our soundscape.
