ESS posted my performance with Anna Friz for the opening of Respire at Audible on its SoundCloud profile. What you hear, amongst a roomful of radios receiving the sounds of breathing and other bodily exclamations typically absent from regular radio programming, is Anna playing amplified sruti, mbira, and electronics. I performed on the Springboard and Korg MS-20. We performed on Friday July 16, 2011. Listen here:
An online article about my springboard just posted on April 4 in the Daily Egyptian, the newspaper of Southern Illinois University. I was interviewed by Pat Sutphin when I performed in the Outside the Box Music Festival, on Saturday, April 2. You can look and listen to it in the multimedia section. Jay Needham curated the evening of radio art and surround sound works in which I performed on that evening.
Eric Leonardson joins Berlin-based turntablist/sound artist Ignaz Schick, and many others, performing in two nights of experimental music @ Enemy. Doors open at 8:00 p.m. Music starts at 9:00 p.m.
Seeded Plain is Bryan Day (Decorah, Iowa) and Jay Kreimer (Lincoln, Nebraska), two experimental instrument makers who have been performing with new and unusual sounds on instruments made from everyday objects and materials. Their Entry Codes CD on Creative Sources (Portugal) was described as “playfully cranky and enjoyable…well worth the listen.” See their March 2011 Mini-Tour schedule here.
Also on the bill:
Aaron Zarzutski + Nick Hoffman
Their LP “PSYCHOPHAGI” on Pilgrim Talk was made using disassembled turntable, sewing machine, and amplified sheet metal.
Pelzwik
Duo from Minneapolis, (Birthday Set with: Dinger/Talking Computron ) “…noisy drone stuff on modified toys with some melodic elements. Probably more accessible than anything anyone else is doing…” http://www.myspace.com/pelzwik
Eric Leonardson
Enemy resident performs with self-built instruments made of coil springs, wood, and other pieces of hand-held, amplified detritus.
“one of the 87 videos on the accompanying DVD to the second edition of Nicolas Collins’s book, Handmade Electronic Music - The Art of Hardware Hacking, published by Routledge in 2009. This 1-minute video was shot and edited by Gretchen Hasse from the original Gearwire.com video interviews about the Springboard.”
Mark Peter Wright interviewed me for the March issue of Ear Room, an online publication exploring the creative use of sound in artistic practice: http://earroom.wordpress.com/

Something Else is Chicago’s longest running radio show devoted to seldom-heard and experimental, avant-garde musics, sound art, works of long duration (no excerpts!), and other less classifiable things that just don’t have an outlet. Chicago Phonography is a collective of artists interested in promoting creative activity in listening by broadcasting unprocessed field recordings as an ensemble in a context of live improvisation.
