I’m happy to announce that the American Society for Acoustic Ecology’s Listening for the Future symposium will take place from Friday, July 9 through Sunday, July 11 in Chicago. Hosted by the ASAE’s Midwest chapter and the World Listening Project this conference is the first of its kind in the United States.
eContact! is the Canadian Electroacoustic Community’s (CEC) online journal of electroacoustics launched in May 1998 as the successor to its print journal, Contact! …published four times a year in French and English. Guest editors have been invited to coordinate one issue per year. Articles, reviews, interviews, commentaries and analyses are featured in the journal, supported by audio and video files. All freely available to the public.

Waveforms is a showcase of student sound works held every semester, organized by Sound Department grad students at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). This semester Ryan Dunn has organized Waveforms under the theme “Remains.”The show includes a performance by Kyle Evans, my TA for Instrument construction, and inventor the electronically modified didgeridoo, performing to real time generated video in addition to this wonderful instrument.

The World Listening Project has built a public sound installation for the Synesthetic Plan of Chicago, co-curated by Annie Heckman and Daniel Godston, in the Visitor Information Center, at the Chicago Cultural Center (77 E. The new edition of my book, Handmade Electronic Music – The Art of Hardware Hacking, is out! Lots of new circuits and illustrations, more examples of artists’ designs, and a DVD with 87 1-minute video clips by hackers from all over the globe, as well as a series of step-by-step video tutorials by me.
